Photographs of some of the impressive cultural treasures at Koriniti Marae on the Whanganui River. Ngati Pamoana the tangata whenua generously welcome respectful visitors to their marae and permit then to take photographs.
The first image is of the urupa, to acknowledge the ancestors who rest there.
Pepara Church, austere and tranquil, supports and enhances contemplation and karakia.
The three carved houses on the marae are all interesting and each very different. Poutama and Te Waiherehere in particular are beautiful. Te Waiherehere is Koriniti's own house. Poutama was transported across the river from its original site in the former village of Karatia. Each house is depicted with some details of its decoration.
The final image shows a wider view of the marae.
